Custom fields on the certificate are empty

Fields such as Metal, Year or Origin are filled automatically from the matching product metafield when one exists. If a field renders blank, the product has no value in the metafield that field is bound to. This is deliberately fail-open: a missing metafield leaves the field empty rather than blocking the certificate from being issued at all. Populate the metafield on the product and reissue.

Check these in order

1. Check the field is bound to a metafield

   In Design, open the detail line. Its value should be Custom field (from the product/order) with the right key, either metal or custom.metal.

2. Check the product or variant has a value

   Open the product in Shopify and confirm the metafield is filled in. A variant value wins over a product value with the same key.

3. Check the metafield type

   Files, JSON and product references cannot be printed and are labelled that way in the designer's list. Metaobject reference fields currently print blank.

4. Check when the certificate was issued

   Metafield values are read when the certificate is issued, so a value added afterwards does not appear on certificates that already exist.

How to fix it

Fill in the metafield first, so every new certificate picks it up. To reissue a certificate that went out blank, delete it from its certificate page and certify that order again from Past orders. The new certificate has a new serial and a new verification link, so send the buyer the new one.
