What it checks

A barcode with a wrong check digit looks perfectly normal on screen and fails silently at the scanner. A product with no internal reference imports into a connector as an unmatched line. Neither is visible in a normal list view, which is why they survive for years.

This audits your catalog and shows you exactly what is broken, with an issue count per product so the worst offenders come first and can be fixed in bulk.

Barcode check digits

For EAN-8, UPC-A, EAN-13 and ITF-14. A wrong check digit looks normal on screen and fails at the scanner. Internal codes that are not a GTIN are reported for information, not counted as faults.

For every barcode with a wrong check digit, the audit shows the digit it should have ended with, so it can be corrected rather than re-guessed.

How it works

Three steps to a clean catalog.

Nothing runs on its own and nothing is sent anywhere. The audit lives in your own database.

  1. 01

    Install it

    Add the module to your addons path or your Odoo.sh branch and install it from the Apps menu. It adds its own Catalog Health menu.

  2. 02

    Rescan the catalog once

    Run Catalog Health > Rescan Catalog so products imported before the install are checked. After that, a product is re-checked whenever its barcode, price, reference, category, unit or image changes.

  3. 03

    Fix the worst first

    Catalog Health > Audit opens on products with issues, highest issue count first. Filter to Bad Check Digit, Duplicate Barcode, No Barcode, No Sales Price or No Internal Reference and fix them in Odoo.

Who this is for

Anyone running a catalog big enough that nobody has read all of it recently. The faults it finds are the ones that survive precisely because a list view makes them invisible: a check digit is only wrong at the scanner, and a missing internal reference only matters the first time something tries to match on it.

  • Why it matters if you sync to a storefront.Every fault above becomes someone else's problem the moment a connector runs. An unmatched internal reference is an order line that will not link. A duplicate barcode is a product that gets skipped with a warning. Running this before you turn on a store connector removes a category of sync failure before it happens.
  • Before a migration or a stocktake.It is most useful immediately before a migration, a stocktake, or switching on a storefront connector, which are the three moments a catalog gets read by a machine instead of a person.

Questions

When is the best time to run an audit?

Immediately before a migration, a stocktake, or switching on a storefront connector. Those are the three moments a catalog is read in bulk, which is when quiet faults turn into someone else's problem.

Why do these faults survive for so long?

Because none of them are visible in a normal list view. A barcode with a wrong check digit looks completely normal on screen and only fails at the scanner, so nothing prompts anyone to look.

Does it change my products?

No. It audits and reports. Fixing is yours to do, and the issue count is there so you can do it in bulk and in priority order.

Which barcode formats does it validate?

EAN-8, UPC-A, EAN-13 and ITF-14.

Which Odoo versions are supported?

Every listed Odoo version is certified on each release by installing the module into a real Odoo image of that series and running the full test suite. A version is only listed once it passes.

Does it work on Odoo Online?

Odoo Online cannot run third-party modules that contain Python, which is Odoo's rule rather than ours. Odoo.sh and self-hosted installs are both fine.

How do I get help?

Email hello@tripsterdevelopers.com with your Odoo version, the module version and what you did. If a product is reported in a way you do not expect, include its barcode, which answers most questions immediately.

Does it work on Community as well as Enterprise?

Yes. Odoo 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 or 19, Community or Enterprise. The same build installs on either edition.

How do I install it?

Download the module from its Odoo Apps Store page, place the folder in your addons path, restart Odoo, then update the apps list and install it from the Apps menu. Odoo.sh users add it to the repository branch instead.

Will it survive an Odoo upgrade?

Each listed Odoo version has its own build. When you move to a new major version, install the build for that version. There is no configuration to carry over, and Rescan Catalog checks every product again.

Where is my data processed?

Inside your own Odoo instance. The module runs on your server and talks to your own systems. We do not host your records and we do not receive a copy of them.

Can I read and adapt the source?

Yes. Odoo modules are distributed as readable Python and XML, so your own developer can review exactly what runs and extend it under the license the module ships with.

What should I send when something is wrong?

Your Odoo version, the module version from the Apps screen, and the product and barcode involved. Those three together are usually enough to answer in one reply rather than four.

Do you take feature requests?

Yes, at the same support address. Say what you are trying to achieve rather than the field you want added; it is often already possible, and when it is not, the underlying goal is what shapes the change.

Is there a public changelog?

Each release note is published on the module's Odoo Apps Store page, against the version number shown on the Apps screen in your own database.
