Barcode Validator and Catalog Audit for Odoo

A barcode with a wrong check digit looks perfectly normal on screen and fails silently at the scanner. A product with no internal reference imports into a connector as an unmatched line. Neither is visible in a normal list view, which is why they survive for years.

This audits your catalogue and shows you exactly what is broken, with an issue count per product so the worst offenders come first and can be fixed in bulk.

What it checks

• Barcode check digits for EAN-8, UPC-A, EAN-13 and ITF-14. A wrong check digit looks normal on screen and fails at the scanner.
• Duplicate barcodes across the whole catalogue.
• Missing internal reference, which is what most integrations key on.
• Missing sales price, product category, unit of measure or image.
• An issue count on every product, so you can sort by it and fix the worst first, in bulk.

Why it matters if you sync to a storefront

Every fault above becomes someone else's problem the moment a connector runs. An unmatched internal reference is an order line that will not link. A duplicate barcode is a product that gets skipped with a warning. Running this before you turn on a store connector removes a category of sync failure before it happens.

Who this is for

Anyone running a catalogue big enough that nobody has read all of it recently. The faults it finds are the ones that survive precisely because a list view makes them invisible: a check digit is only wrong at the scanner, and a missing internal reference only matters the first time something tries to match on it.

It is most useful immediately before a migration, a stocktake, or switching on a storefront connector, which are the three moments a catalogue gets read by a machine instead of a person.

Requirements

• Odoo 16, 17, 18 or 19, Community or Enterprise.
• Odoo Online cannot run third-party modules that contain Python, which is Odoo's rule rather than ours. Odoo.sh and self-hosted installs are both fine.
