Product traceability is moving towards machine-readable records, led by the EU Digital Product Passport. Authentica already issues a signed certificate for each item, so every certificate doubles as a machine-readable product record, with no blockchain involved.
What each certificate carries
| Format | Where | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Product data on the verification page | Embedded in every verification page as schema.org JSON-LD | The product, your brand, its identifiers and a link to the Certificate of Authenticity, readable by search engines and other software. |
| Digital Product Passport record | /apps/authentica/dpp/<token> on your store, where the token is the one in the certificate link | A JSON record of the product and its attributes, the serial and other identifiers, the issuer, the issue date, the provenance trail, the status (active, revoked, expired or not yet activated) and the integrity proof. |
| GS1 Digital Link | https://yourstore.com/apps/authentica/01/<GTIN>/21/<serial> | The GS1-standard web address for one item. It opens that item's verification page. |
Give an item a GTIN
The GS1 Digital Link needs a GTIN (the product barcode number) on the certificate:
- enter it in GTIN / barcode when you issue a certificate by hand;
- import it with a
gtinorbarcodecolumn in a CSV import; - or let Authentica take the variant barcode when you certify past orders.
The integrity proof
The passport record includes the certificate's fingerprint, its Ed25519 signature and a link to your store's public key, so anyone can check that the record was issued by you and has not been changed. See Cryptographic signing. There is no wallet, token or blockchain.
