Issuing certificates

Certificate validity and expiry

Give certificates a valid-until date for warranties, memberships or limited-validity items. After that date the verification page shows them as expired.

Most certificates never expire. If yours should, for example a warranty, a membership or a limited-validity item, set how long each new certificate stays valid. After that date its verification page shows it as expired.

Where to find it

Apps → Authentica → Settings → Certificate validity.

How to set it up

  1. Set the validity

Enter Valid for (months), up to 600. New certificates then expire that many months after the purchase date. 0, the default, means certificates never expire.
  2. Save

The setting applies to certificates issued from now on.

Other ways to set an expiry

  • One certificate: when you issue a certificate by hand from Certificates → Issue a certificate, you can give it its own expiry date, even if the store default is never.
  • Imported certificates: an expiresAt column in a CSV import sets each row's date.

What buyers see

WhenVerification page
Before the dateThe certificate verifies as normal and shows Valid until with the date, in the visitor's language.
After the dateThe page says the certificate expired on that date. It carries a watermark across it and never shows the Download PDF button.

In the app, an expired certificate shows an Expired banner on its page, and in a buyer's customer account its status reads Expired.
