If a rental runs past its agreed end date, you can record a late fee from the booking dashboard. Miko works the amount out from your daily late fee and grace period, and prepares it as a Shopify draft order invoice for you to send to the customer.
Where to find it
Set your late fee rate in Apps → Miko Product Rentals → Settings → Rental settings. Record a fee on the booking itself: open it from Bookings and use the Late fees section, which appears once the booking is overdue.
How to set it up
Set your rate
In Settings, enter a Late fee per day and a Grace period before late fees, then click Save rental settings.Let the booking go overdue
The day after the return date passes, the booking moves to Overdue and the customer gets an overdue email that shows your daily late fee rate.Record the fee
Open the booking and click Record late fee in the Late fees section.Send the invoice
Click Open draft order in Shopify, review it and send the invoice so the customer can pay.
The late fee is recorded against the booking and shown as Late fee charged in its payment summary, giving you a clear record for overdue rentals.
Options
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Late fee per day | Extra charge per day the item is overdue. Set to 0 if you do not want to charge late fees. |
| Grace period before late fees | How many days past the return date before late fees kick in. Set to 0 for no grace period. |
Example
Your late fee is $10 a day with a 1-day grace period, and a kayak comes back 4 days late. The fee is (4 days overdue minus 1 day of grace) × $10 = $30.
