Inventory and unit counts
Track how many physical units you own of each rentable item, managed inside Miko and separate from Shopify's own stock count.
Miko Product Rentals manages availability based on your unit count , the number of physical units you own of each rentable item. This is separate from Shopify's own inventory quantity and is managed entirely within Miko.
How unit counts work
If you own 3 kayaks, set the unit count to 3. When a customer books a kayak for a given date range, one unit is reserved for those dates. A second customer booking the same item for an overlapping date range reserves another unit. Once all 3 units are booked for a date range, those dates show as unavailable to any further customers browsing the date picker.
Per-variant inventory
If your product has variants (for example, Small Kayak and Large Kayak), each variant has its own unit count and its own availability pool. A booking for the Small Kayak variant does not affect the availability of the Large Kayak variant. You can set a different unit count for each variant from the product rental settings page.
Leaving buffer time
Consider setting your unit count conservatively if you need time between rentals for cleaning, maintenance, or transit. For example, if you own 3 units but realistically can only turn around 2 rentals at a time, set the unit count to 2. Alternatively, use Blocked Dates to manually close off specific items after a rental.
