Automated emails

The three emails sent automatically per booking: the booking confirmation, the return reminder and the overdue email.

Miko Product Rentals sends three automated emails per booking to keep customers informed at the right moments. They are on by default on every plan.

Where to find it

In Apps → Miko Product Rentals, the Settings page holds your email identity (sender name and reply-to address) and, on paid plans, Custom email sender (SMTP). The Emails page holds your brand settings and the email templates.

How to set it up

  1. Set your email identity

In Settings, enter a Sender name (usually your store name) and a Reply-to email so customer replies reach you.
  2. Add your branding

On the Emails page, under Brand settings, add your logo, brand name and primary color, then click Save brand settings.
  3. Review the templates

Under Email Templates, open a template to edit its wording and layout.
  4. Send from your own domain (Starter and above)

In Settings → Custom email sender (SMTP), fill in your SMTP details and click Save SMTP settings.

The three automated emails

  1. Booking confirmation: sent when the customer's payment is captured, so a pay-later order gets it once it is paid. The confirmation includes the booking details: the rental product, rental start and end dates, and the amounts charged.
  2. Return reminder: sent the day before the rental end date. The reminder includes the return date and any return instructions you have added to its template.
  3. Overdue email: sent the day after the return date passes if the item has not been marked as returned, showing your daily late fee rate.

BYO SMTP (Starter plan and above)

On the Starter plan and above, you can connect your own SMTP server so that emails are sent from your own domain (for example, rentals@yourstore.com) with your own sender name. Any provider that gives you SMTP details works, for example Gmail (via App Password or Google Workspace), SendGrid, Postmark, Mailgun, and any standard SMTP server.

Without BYO SMTP (on the Free plan), emails are sent from Miko's sending address, noreply@miko.co.nz, with your sender name as the display name.

Email customization

Email templates include your store name by default. On every plan, you can customize them with your logo, brand colors, and your own wording in the templates, for both the booking confirmation and return reminder.
