Alt text is the short description behind an image. Search engines read it, and so do screen readers. Writing it by hand across a catalog is the reason most stores never do it, so Miko fills it from a template. The wording comes from your template and each product's own details. It is not written by AI.
Where to find it
Open Alt Text from the left-hand menu. Choose Product images or Collection images under Apply to.
How to set it up
Write the template
In Alt text template, write a sentence and click a token to add it.Check it on your real products
The table under On your real products shows the before and after as you type.Decide what to overwrite
Leave Only fill in images that have no alt text ticked to keep your own wording. Untick it to replace everything.Write it
Press Write alt text for all products and confirm with Yes, write it.
Building the template
Write a sentence and drop in tokens where the details should go. Miko replaces them per image.

A live table shows the before and after for real products as you type, so you can see the sentence your shoppers will get. Any token with nothing behind it is dropped cleanly rather than leaving a gap. Shopify caps alt text at 512 characters, so longer text is trimmed to fit.
Example
The recommended template is {product} - {vendor} product photo {position}. For the second photo of a mug called Blue Ceramic Mug from a vendor called Acme, that reads Blue Ceramic Mug - Acme product photo 2.
